We kicked off our journey by boarding the BC Ferry from Tsawwassen, which took just 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach Victoria (Swartz Bay). My brother and I had reservations at Ocean Island Inn Backpackers Suites, a budget-friendly, cozy, and ideally located hostel in Victoria.

After checking in, we ventured out to explore the neighborhood and find some good places to eat. Victoria truly is a beautiful city. To keep our first day relaxed, we decided to call it a night after enjoying a delicious dinner at Yates Street Taphouse — a great spot for drinks and tasty food!

The next day, after breakfast, we headed to Thunderbird Park, famous for its totem poles and other First Nations monuments. From there, we made our way to the iconic British Columbia Parliament Building, home to the legislative assembly of BC. The architecture of the Parliament Building is absolutely world-class!

There was a viewpoint near our hostel called Finlayson Point, so we headed straight there, grabbing a coffee on the way. The view from the point was breathtaking—a magnificent panoramic vista of the ocean stretching before us. People were running, going for evening walks, playing, and walking their pets. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of life.

The last day was reserved for the Bug Zoo and Miniature World. I was particularly excited about the Bug Zoo, as I had read online that you could hold some of the insects in your hands! The zoo was a charming little place with over 50 different species of insects, including spiders, mantises, walking sticks, centipedes, and more. They also have the largest ant colony in Canada. It's definitely a must-see attraction.

Next, we visited one of the most popular tourist attractions in Victoria, Miniature World. The museum features 85 incredible miniature displays, showcasing scenes from fiction, history, religion, and more. The attention to detail is so impressive that you'd feel like visiting this place again and again.

The last place I wanted to visit was Fisherman’s Wharf, but unfortunately, it was closed. However, I still managed to capture some pictures of this colorful spot floating on the water. I was also fortunate enough to snap a beautiful shot of the Parliament building with its icy backdrop.

My weekend getaway to Victoria - Vancouver Island was a truly memorable experience, filled with natural beauty, historical landmarks, and unique attractions. From the serene views at Finlayson Point to the quirky charm of the Bug Zoo and Miniature World, Victoria offered a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. Whether you’re soaking in the vibrant local culture or simply enjoying the stunning waterfront, Victoria is a destination that leaves a lasting impression.
